The Play Date Cafe is celebrating its 3rd anniversary, and although I am very new to their little community, I think it is absolutely incredible that they have been around for so long, providing a different challenge once a week without fail, giving attention to so many participants by leaving kind comments in all blogs, putting so much effort, time and creativity for the pleasure of others.

I decided to show my appreciation for these wonderful ladies by making a card celebrating the challenge’s 3rd anniversary. It turned out to be less of a card and more of a modest 15cm x 15 cm mini album as I wanted to fit so many ideas in.

I used the current colour palette on all pages, bearing in mind that I do not have to use the exact colours but rather providing a platform to a variety of hues being one of the Cafe’s motos. I wanted to pay tribute to the wonderful designers that have won one of the three challenges which pinpoint the milestones in the Cafe  history: the very first challenge ever, the 1st anniversary challenge, and the 2nd anniversary (I must emphasize that ALL challenges throughout the 3 years were just as important to sustain the Cafe, but unfortunately couldn’t choose them all… so please do not be offended…) I used the designer’s sketches (here are links to the relevant websites: 2009, 2010, 2011), added pictures to remind us of those three Cafe challenges, chose some of the sentences from the very first post that I thought were still very true in describing the way this challenge is functioning even to this day. I decided I will not use any manufactured patterned paper or cardstock, just a bit of acrylic paint, aquarel paper and my dysfunctional printer. I also used the Spellbinders Pebbles Impresssabilty on the first page.

I really enjoyed making this little gift, I hope you do too, and I wish The Play Date Cafe will be here next year too, and more years to come.

I have discovered the world of challenges and am about to become an addict…

The colours on The Play Date Cafe challenge number 152 made me think of outer space.

I saw this sweet free digital stamp of a rocket and instantly decided to use it. I must confess I tried sewing the frame, but I am so useless with the sewing machine it came out all crooked and I had to redo it with a white gel pen.

Cardstock – Recollections Precious Metals and some unknown purple cardstock

Ink – Tim Holtz Dusty Concord distress marker, Sakura white Glaze pen

Font – Pea Amie downloaded from here

I saw this wonderful and easy guide that explains how to make a mini album from scratch and decided to have a go and make a 7″ x 7″ mini.

The obvious candidate for the very first mini was a blank album for the birth of a baby girl, a present for the brand new addition to a friend’s family. I decided to leave it all blank so that the parents can write the titles to the photographs themselves which will make it much more personalised and turn it into a joint project.

Here are a few pages, starting with the cover.

Cardstock – nameless single sheets that I got at a stationary shop

Stamp – Fiskars New Baby simple stick rubber stamps

Ink – ColorBox Lavender pigment ink

Embossing Folder – Cuttlebug Swiss Dots

This page was made with Inkadinkado Patterned Bugs clear stamp, ColorBox Lavender, Aqua and Seagull pigment ink, EK Success butterfly mini punch

This page was made with Inkadinkado Patterned Pets clear stamp, ColorBox Lavender, Aqua, Robin’s Egg and Seagull pigment ink

And the last photo is of  the concertina fold spine which was made with same inks and stamps as above
